In a 4-hour-procudere
Segmented Surgical resection of a large odontogenic fibromyxoma
.
Grown up or a kid, we all have Dentophobia!
The stereotype of the dentist is always accompanied by the feeling of pain or the needle and other unpleasant treatment procedures.
.
So, can you imagine if you were misdiagnosed and your visits to the dentist went to no avail … with ongoing pain!
.
Referred from another hospital, our patient visited Dr. Ibrahim Hassoun, oral and maxillofacial surgery specialist, complains of swelling in the lower jaw with ongoing severe pain, she has been treated for a long time but the pain and swelling were the same, as she was misdiagnosed by her doctors who diagnosed her case with a dental abscess.
.
Radiological examination with MRI, CT, and conventional radiography pointed to a Neoplasm , so a biopsy was taken for further investigation , the result showed that the patient has a large odontogenic fibromyxoma ,a rare benign neoplasm that mostly affects the posterior region of the mandible, that destroyed her mandibular bone
.
The medical team that included, Dr . Ibrahem Hassoun , Dr . Hesham Alsayed , and Dr. Dina Abdul Samee agreed that surgery is the treatment of choice for such rare cases , along with placing a Bone grafting from the iliac bone to prevent the recurrence of the tumor
.
The surgery that lasted for 4 hours, was a success and the patient was discharged in good health
