The heart and catheterization team saves the life of a patient who suffered a clot in the right pulmonary artery

Our patient - 89 years old - suffered from severe shortness of breath and a disturbance in consciousness, as a result of which she was transferred to the emergency room of Almoosa Specialist Hospital. A CT scan was performed on suspicion of a stroke due to a history of patients suffering from a previous stroke, but during a dye examination on the brain, it was revealed that there was a mass (thrombus) in the right pulmonary artery and a severe drop in blood pressure.
The hospital's Pulmonary Arterial Embolism Care Team (PERT) was immediately formed to conduct a rapid assessment of the case, knowing that the death rate in the first hour for such cases exceeds 65%.

The team consisted of the cardiologist on duty, the intensive care physician, the cardiologist consultant, and the cardiologist and catheterist consultant

The treatment consisted of initially giving solvents and then intervening with a high-capacity suction catheter to pull out the clot. The procedure was completed successfully and the patient was transferred to intensive care for follow-up and she is now in good condition.
