The HbA1c test is a valuable tool to measure your blood glucose control over a period of up to three months.

What is normal cumulative blood sugar?

The HbA1c test, also known as the HbA1c test, is an important marker used in diabetes care to evaluate average blood sugar levels over a period of weeks to months.

It reflects the amount of glucose bound to hemoglobin in red blood cells, providing a long-term trend in blood sugar control compared to a single blood glucose measurement.

Normal cumulative blood sugar table

The following table shows the normal rates for healthy people and diabetics:

Diagnosis Cumulative blood sugar rate
             natural          Less than 5.7%
   Pre-diabetes stage    From 5.7% to 6.4%
            drunken       6.5% or higher

Normal cumulative blood sugar level for a diabetic patient

As we mentioned, rates vary based on the presence or absence of a medical condition, but for diabetics, the matter is slightly different.

This target level is crucial to effectively manage diabetes and reduce the risk of complications associated with the condition.

However, this number may be more or less depending on the patient’s condition, his diabetes pattern, and the medications he takes, so;

Normal cumulative blood sugar level at the age of forty

At the age of forty, the normal cumulative blood sugar rate is considered the same as the average at any other age, and it should be less than 5.7% for a healthy person. Also, this rate indicates a good balance in the blood sugar level during the last two to three months, and if the cumulative sugar level is between 5.7% and 6.4%, this is considered a pre-diabetes stage, and it also indicates the plan for the development of the disease in the future, but if it reaches 6.5% or more, this is often diagnosed with diabetes, and with advancing age, especially after the age of forty,

Natural cumulative blood sugar for children

The HbA1c test is a useful tool for diagnosing type 2 diabetes in children, but it should be used in combination with other measurements and the results interpreted with caution in light of the child's overall health.

For example, HbA1c testing may not be accurate in children with cystic fibrosis or hemoglobinopathies for conditions, such as sickle cell anemia.

In these cases, it may be important to consider alternative measurements, such as fructosamine in addition to random and fasting blood glucose levels.

What is the normal cumulative blood sugar level for children?

The normal range for children without diabetes ranges between 4.8% and 6.0%. As for children with diabetes, the doctor's goal is often to achieve a cumulative blood sugar of less than 7.5%.

Your doctor may set more stringent HbA1c goals (less than 6.5%);

It is worth noting that what we mentioned above are only general rules established by clinical research, but the treatment of diabetes in children varies from one case to another.

It is important to consult a specialist doctor periodically;

Normal cumulative blood sugar for pregnant women

Usually, the normal cumulative blood sugar level for pregnant women does not exceed 6%, and this is what studies prove and specialist doctors tell. Doctors advise pregnant women to do periodic examinations and perform a cumulative blood sugar test throughout the pregnancy to ensure that the sugar level does not rise above normal.

It is necessary to monitor the cumulative blood sugar of a pregnant woman, even after birth, especially if there is a family history of diabetes, or if there is a sudden weight gain during pregnancy. Follow-up is necessary to maintain the normal blood sugar level of the pregnant woman in order to reduce the possibility of complications for the mother and fetus.

affected Results of cumulative blood sugar analysis Also through:

  • alcoholism.
  • Hyperbilirubinemia.
  • Hypertriglyceridemia.
  • Chronic kidney disease.
  • Ischemic heart diseases.
  •  Insulin use.
  • Use of blood sugar-lowering medications.

The doctor takes into account all these factors, and adds age, body mass index, and health condition to be able to analyze the results of this test and give an accurate diagnosis based on the individual case.

Normal cumulative blood sugar level for a fasting person

The normal cumulative sugar level is not affected by the state of fasting, as it measures the average blood sugar level during the last two to three months, and does not measure the sugar level at a specific moment, and therefore it can be performed at any time without fasting. However, it is used in addition to the fasting blood sugar analysis to accurately evaluate the person’s condition. The cumulative sugar level is considered normal if it is less than 5.7%, and it indicates good sugar control, but if the rate ranges between 5.7% and 6.4%, this indicates the pre-diabetes stage.

Normal cumulative blood sugar level after eating

The cumulative sugar level is not directly affected by eating at the moment of the analysis because it expresses the average blood sugar level during the last two to three months, regardless of the timing of eating. It is considered normal if it is less than 5.7%, but if it is between 5.7% and 6.4%, it is an indication of pre-diabetes, and if the rate is 6.5% or more, it is evidence of diabetes. Therefore, this analysis is not used to evaluate the effect of a specific meal, but it gives a general picture of long-term sugar control.

Diseases that cause an increase in the blood sugar test result

There are several diseases that cause an increase in the blood sugar test result, and they certainly include type 1 and type 2 diabetes, in addition to gestational diabetes, and a group of other medical conditions such as:

  • Chronic kidney disease, which results in an imbalance in blood sugar levels.
  • An imbalance in the functions of the thyroid gland, such as hyperactivity, which affects the result of the analysis.
  • Cardiovascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis, which results in high blood sugar levels.
  • Cushing's syndrome, a condition that includes increased secretion of the hormone cortisol, resulting in insulin resistance.
  • Liver cirrhosis and chronic hepatitis. It is known that the liver regulates blood sugar levels, and therefore the result of the cumulative blood sugar analysis increases in the case of chronic liver disease.

Diseases that cause a decrease in blood sugar levels

There are also many diseases that cause a decrease in the blood sugar test result, the most important of which are:

  • Thyroid disorders: Having hypothyroidism negatively affects blood sugar levels.
  • malnutrition: Not eating sufficient amounts of food on a continuous basis leads to low blood sugar levels.
  • Anemia or anaemia: It means a lack of iron in the body, which leads to low results in the cumulative blood sugar analysis.
  • Kidney disease: Such as kidney failure, which is a serious condition that affects the blood sugar level with other complications.

Symptoms of high blood sugar

Learn about the most prominent symptoms of high blood sugar, which appear gradually and warn of the presence of a medical problem that requires treatment. They include the following:

 FAQs

When is glycemic index dangerous?

The cumulative sugar level is dangerous if it exceeds 8 or 9%. This means that the disease is not completely controlled, and one must be careful at that time so as not to cause serious complications in the body due to the high blood sugar level.

What is the difference between cumulative sugar and regular sugar?

Regular blood sugar is a test to measure the sugar level at a specific moment or time, whether after fasting or after eating for a specific number of hours, while cumulative blood sugar focuses on measuring and evaluating the average blood sugar level in the last 3 months before the test is done.

In conclusion, your normal cumulative blood sugar level will not appear by simply stopping white sugar or following a diet several days before performing the test. You must realize that it is a valuable tool for evaluating long-term blood sugar control and diagnosing the effectiveness of the followed lifestyle and prescribed drug doses.

Do not underestimate it and consult your doctor about the target range that you will reach in your treatment journey.
