You don't like the appearance of your nose, and are thinking of ways to get rid of this appearance?

How is rhinoplasty performed?

Rhinoplasty is performed for many reasons, including cosmetic reasons only and others as a result of health problems.

What are the types of rhinoplasty procedures?

Rhinoplasty procedures are divided into two parts:

  • Open rhinoplasty.
  • Closed rhinoplasty.

Open rhinoplasty

This type of surgery relies on separating the skin and soft tissue from the nasal bone and cartilage, which provides a greater view of the nasal structure and makes the surgeon's work easier.

Closed rhinoplasty

In this type of surgery, the surgeon relies on making hidden incisions inside the nose, which significantly speeds up the healing process.

What are the steps of rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty surgery is performed in the following steps:

  1. The anesthesiologist gives the appropriate dose to the patient to achieve complete anesthesia.
  2. The surgeon begins by making an incision in the nose, whether open or closed.
  3. It reshapes the structure of the nose according to the patient's expectations and what his medical condition allows.
  4. If necessary, the doctor corrects the deviated nasal septum.
  5. The doctor finally closes the incisions.

What are the preparations before nose surgery?

The doctor advises the patient to do the following in preparation for surgery:

  • Stop taking certain medications such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs 4 weeks before surgery.
  • Stop smoking for a period of at least 4 weeks before and 4 weeks after surgery.
  • Arranging for a trusted person to accompany the patient after the procedure.

What are the most common contraindications after rhinoplasty?

After orthopedic plastic surgery, the doctor advises the following:

  • Avoid strenuous activities and lifting heavy weights, and avoid any movement that increases blood flow to the nose and increases the risk of bleeding.
  • Avoid blowing your nose to avoid bleeding.
  • Avoid exposure to sunlight and high temperatures to avoid infections that slow down the healing process.
  • Avoid lying on the ground in a straight line, as the heart is at the same level as the head, which increases blood flow in the nose, and this exposes the patient to bleeding and increased pain.

How long is the recovery period for rhinoplasty?

First, the doctor applies a nasal splint for a week, while the swelling and bruising continues for at least two weeks. However, the healing process is divided into several stages, which we will discuss below:

  • The first week

As mentioned earlier, the doctor puts a splint on the patient to support the nose and maintain the shape of the new structure.

  • The second, third and fourth weeks

The doctor removes the nasal splint, and of course there will be traces of bruising and swelling that disappear completely by the fourth week.

At this stage, you can return to daily activities while avoiding any excessive effort.

  • The first, second and third months

At this stage, the effects of bruising disappear completely، However, one must still be careful of exposure to sunlight and high temperatures.

  • Months from six to twelve

At this stage, the final result of rhinoplasty is fully visible.

Is rhinoplasty painful?

After rhinoplasty, the patient may feel pain not only in the surgical area, but it may extend to around the eye with swelling in this area.

In some cases, a change in skin color may also appear around the eyelids, but fortunately the pain and other symptoms go away within a few weeks, and these symptoms rarely take a few months to resolve.

How can the nose be improved without surgery?

Rhinoplasty without surgery is one of the most common techniques in this field, as it gives the desired result without making any incisions in the nose, without complete anesthesia, and with a shorter recovery period.

Doctors resort to rhinoplasty without surgery for the following purposes:

  • Getting rid of minor bumps.
  • Lift the tip of the nose slightly upward.
  • Correction of asymmetry between the sides of the nose.
  • Sculpt the sides of the nose.
  • Reducing or enlarging the nose.

Rhinoplasty can be done without surgery by injecting substances such as hyaluronic acid or Botox into the fatty tissue in the nose under local anesthesia. When these substances settle in the nose, they adjust its shape and hide the bumps and asymmetries.

In addition to the above, there are several other ways to beautify the nose, which we will discuss below.

Rhinoplasty with threads

Doctors usually resort to rhinoplasty with threads if the goal is to raise the tip of the nose and correct the asymmetry of its sides.

The doctor uses a type of thread that does not cause allergies, and after inserting it, the tip of the nose rises and the proportion of the face increases little by little.

One of the biggest advantages of this technology is the speed of recovery and return to daily activities within a maximum of two or three days.

Is it possible to reduce the nose with laser?

Certainly, the doctor passes the laser through the nose focusing on the targeted area, which helps to restructure the bones and cartilage and change the shape of the nose.

One of the most prominent features of this technique is that it does not cause obvious side effects such as bruising or swelling.

Is there a risk in rhinoplasty?

There is usually no risk in this surgical procedure, but like any surgery there can be a small risk of complications, including:

  • النزيف.
  • Infection.
  • Scars that do not disappear.
  • The appearance of the nose is not as symmetry as expected.
  • Loss of sense of smell.
  • Damage to the nerves in the nose.

How does the shape of the face change after rhinoplasty?

Any change in facial features, even if it is minor, can slightly change the shape of the face. It may occur:

  • Change in nose curves.
  • A change in the sculpting of the sides of the nose.
  • Change in the external appearance of the nasal septum.

With these changes, the face looks a little different than it did before, and this is normal.

In conclusion, rhinoplasty requires patience and constant communication with the doctor to achieve the desired results. It is also important to know all the precautions that must be followed before and after the procedure to avoid complications or failure of the operation.
