This procedure is painless and quick. It takes about 30 minutes, and it has few side effects, which we will mention in detail, but before that, let’s learn about the reasons why the lips appear dark.

How does laser work for lip augmentation?

Laser technology in lip augmentation is characterized by a precise mechanism that targets the superficial and deep skin layers, as it works on:

  • Breaking up pigmentation, by melanin, the pigment responsible for tanning, absorbing the laser energy and breaking it down into small particles that are eliminated through the lymphatic system.
  • Stimulating collagen, because the heat generated by the laser activates fibroblast cells to produce new collagen, which improves the texture of the lips and lifts them.
  • Cell regeneration, by removing the outer layer of dead skin, which stimulates the growth of new cells with a natural pink color.

 Steps for supplying laser lips

If you are planning to have laser lip augmentation, here are these steps to help you understand the technique more deeply:

  • Medical consultation, evaluation of the type of pigmentation and condition of the lips, and determining the appropriate type of laser. The doctor advises you to avoid exposure to the sun for 14 days and stop retinoid preparations a week before the procedure.
  • During the session, the lips are first deeply cleansed and makeup and oils are removed with a medical antiseptic.
  • Anesthesia is done by applying anesthetic cream for 20-30 minutes.
  • The doctor adjusts the settings of the laser device according to the depth of pigmentation, then passes it over the lips at regular distances. The session takes 10-15 minutes.
  • Immediately after the session, a soothing gel or cold compresses are applied, as well as fucidin or vitamin E ointment.

Does laser remove dark lips?

Two types of lasers can be used to restore the lips to their original color. The first type is the Fractional CO2 laser technology, which works by heating the inner layers with the laser.

The procedure involves applying a carbon activator  to the lips to generate thermal energy from the laser, followed by the application of a laser beam targeting the pigmented cells while micro-exfoliating the outer layer of the lips.

This results in the elimination of pigmentation in the outer layers, in addition to stimulating the production of collagen in the inner layers, which leads to tightening the lips and reducing the appearance of wrinkles and pigmentation, which improves the overall appearance of the lips.

It is worth noting that there are other types of laser devices that target the deep layers inside the lips, as the laser breaks up the pigmentation accumulated under the upper layers, which reduces the skin’s ability to re-form melanin in those special areas.
