Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

When human beings experience any illness or trauma it is not uncommon for their lives to unravel. Our great passion is bringing healing to children who have been through illness or stressful experience.

The Division of Critical Care at Almoosa Specialist Hospital treats children at Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). We provide top-quality care using the most recent advancements in equipment and techniques.

Our 20-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is dedicated to the care of critically ill children.

We believe in family-centered care, which means we involve the whole family in a patient’s treatment plan. We are working and engaging with family members; working with the family to set up goals, strengthen capacity, and make decisions; and providing individualized, culturally responsive, and evidence-based interventions to each family. From bringing family members into care plan meetings, to providing support to parents , we do our best to help fit our care within your lifestyle.

The PICU provides advanced care to children of all ages and with a vast range of serious conditions. The latest interventions and treatments are available in the PICU, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), specialty ventilation techniques including high frequency ventilation and nitric oxide, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, open heart surgery for children and cardiac catheterization, all types of trauma including traumatic brain injury, drowning and submersion management with hypothermia and many other conditions and management techniques.

Your child’s safety and the quality of care we provide your family is of utmost priority. We ensure this with regular reviews of our practices, along with continuous improvement efforts.
