A quick surgical intervention that restores his movement after a fall

74-year-old Mohammed, did not imagine that a simple fall would make him paralyzed and unable to move overnight.

Muhammad describes his condition, saying: I was heading to my car after I finished shopping in the supermarket near my house, and as soon as I put my foot on the first step of the stairs until I fell on my knees, then I stressed myself a little and got up and got in my car and headed home with a feeling of pain. Severe in the back.

I woke up the next day to start my day as usual, but this time my morning was different.. I couldn’t get out of bed, I tried my best.. I lost feeling in my lower limbs. I felt confused and anxious.. Questions on my mind What happened to me? Did you get paralyzed?

My family quickly transferred me to the Neuroscience Center at Al-Mousa Specialized Hospital. There, a comprehensive clinical evaluation was done by Dr. Saber Abu Al-Hassan, a consultant neurologist, and Dr. Hassan Salama, a neurologist, to diagnose my case.

It did not take them much time, especially after looking at the magnetic resonance imaging and confirming the presence of severe stenosis in the spinal canal and severe weakness in the muscles of the lower extremities, in addition to damage to the terminal nerve roots of the spinal cord in the lower back, which was the reason for the inability to walk. At that time, the medical team of the Neuroscience Center, led by Dr. Mohamed Kassab, a consultant in neurosurgery and cerebral vascular surgery, decided to perform a surgery to release the compressed and damaged nerves inside the spine, and indeed the operation was performed.

When Dr. Kassab was asked about the patient’s condition, he said, praise be to God, that Muhammad began to improve almost immediately after the operation. He was able to stand with help on the first day after the operation and started walking with help on the second day, and was able to walk independently on the third day with the help of a treadmill. Physical therapist specializing in spinal cord injuries and paralysis. The muscular abilities of Mohammed’s lower extremities improved well and rapidly, and the bladder function also improved.

The patient is currently feeling great gratitude and has a great hope of returning soon, God willing, to resume his normal activity.

Dr. Muhammad Kassab concluded his speech by saying: The success of such cases is attributed to the accuracy of the diagnosis, the speed of making the right decision, the distinguished surgical and anesthesia expertise, the availability of advanced surgical tools and equipment available in the hospital, and the outstanding performance of the physiotherapy department. complex cases
