THE ROLE OF CHEMOTHERAPY AFTER TUMOR EXCISION

There are different ways to treat malignant tumors. Cancer may be treated by surgical excision of the tumor or the entire affected organ in advanced cases. Normally, chemotherapy sessions after surgical removal act as adjuvant therapy to prevent recurrence. An oncologist chooses the type of chemotherapy for the patient based on the type, location, stage, and extent of the tumor’s spread. Moreover, the oncologist puts into consideration the overall health status of the patient (age, disease history, etc.) and the treatment goal (does the patient need chemotherapy sessions prior to or post-surgical excision?)
