Laboratory
We understand that when you get sick, the faster your physician gets the laboratory tests back, the quicker your treatment can begin.
Our laboratory is designed with excellence in mind to serve the community’s diagnostic needs.
Almoosa Specialist Hospital laboratory is offering a comprehensive menu of unique tests and services.
The laboratory operates at a high level of accuracy and is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The CAP accreditation is known internationally as the gold and ideal standard for laboratories.
The laboratory at Almoosa Specialist Hospital is covering 2000 square meters with a state-of-the-art fully automated core laboratory and is equipped with up-to-date analyzers in chemistry, serology, hematology, coagulation, molecular diagnostics, histopathology, blood banking, and apheresis.
We aim to be a reference laboratory for other hospitals, clinics, and laboratories in the region. Our laboratory staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to run laboratory tests, answer questions, and to support our physicians with prompt, accurate results.
Biochemistry / Immunology
Which uses chemical processes to measure levels of chemical components in body fluids such as blood glucose, electrolytes, enzymes, hormones, fats, proteins, antibodies, allergy tests, and metabolic substances. Advanced serologic methods and immunofluorescence microscopy are included to provide highly specialized tests.
Microbiology / Microscopy
This section works on clinical specimens including swabs, feces, urine, blood, sputum, cerebrospinal fluid, synovial fluid, as well as possible infected tissue. The main concern here is cultures, to look for suspected pathogens and test the sensitivity to antibiotics. In addition, microscopic examination of stool and urine analysis are performed here.
Hematology
Which test blood and bone marrow cells to help diagnose anemia, infection, hemophilia, blood-clotting disorders, and leukemia.
Blood Bank
Applying the highest safety standards in selecting blood donors, blood component preparation, and storage. Platelet apheresis service from donors to patients in need, in addition to patient blood exchange services. Providing compatible and safe blood for routine and complicated patients.
Anatomic Pathology
The service of histopathology and cytology are provided by expert North American trained pathologists and cytotechnologists. The section is equipped with immunohistochemistry, special stain, and frozen section equipment. The pathologists examine all tissues removed from the patients to provide an accurate diagnosis of benign and cancer diseases including intraoperative consultation and fine-needle aspiration cytology.
Molecular Diagnostics
The service of molecular diagnostic uses techniques to analyze nucleic acids in sampled material to detect the presence of infectious and non-infectious diseases. Our laboratory currently provides several infectious molecular diagnostic tests which help physicians treat infectious diseases sooner and with more precision. We also have noninfectious tests related to genetic diseases of the coagulation system and we continue to increase our menu to meet the clinical needs. A future project in molecular diagnostics includes preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD).
An automated lab system was introduced with the latest technologies used in laboratory science. Samples are treated automatically and without any human intervention to ensure that there are no errors.
The system speed reaches 8000 samples per hour. The system supports the work with emergency samples to provide faster service to patients and provide better healthcare.
This system is supplied by Abbott Laboratories, which has more than 130 years in this field. All analyzes are done on Alinity devices, which won the 2017 Clinical Laboratory Equipment Award
